RAW’s 2022 groups!
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GROUPS
Mariposa, Spanish for butterfly, is a mentor-based, all-girls group for third through fifth graders. The group supports the development of positive identity through the arts.
This groups’ acronym stands for Playground of Possibilities! Young artists in this group use a large variety of materials to create art through play and exploration. Traditional and non-traditional instruction is given for kids to learn new skills and to feel proud of their creations.
In this group young artists learn creative ways of expressing themselves, and find new ways of connecting with their peers and staff. Youth are provided with mixed media materials, support and instruction to create artwork that speaks from their heart.
This studio arts group encourages kids to explore different materials from 2-D to 3-D, and to build self-esteem through artistic expression and experimentation.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
This dynamic, creative, group for middle schoolers uses art to connect and explore identity. All forms of media are utilized and imagination guides their artistic journey.
This group introduces middle schoolers to making Public Art. We may have to work from home, but we can still put our art into the world! Group members design and paint murals, and more!
A mentor-based group for artists who identify as female, non-binary, trans or marginalized genders who want to work on building confidence, self-image, and supportive relationships through conversation and art making.
Boyz Lync is a mentor-based, all-boys group that helps build confidence, self-image, and supportive relationships while making art.
A group for inspiring artists, to explore new art forms and hone in on their craft.
HIGH SCHOOL GROUPS
A group for motivated female artists who are ready to engage in their community and create art in response to social justice issues.
WAMX (Womxn Art Muralists) is made up of a team of young womxn who work together to create positive change in their community through public art.
A mentor-based, all-male group where life issues are explored and addressed through the arts to support young men preparing for their futures.
RAW Chiefs is a leadership development program where teen leaders help facilitate RAW’s visual arts groups for younger artists. They also contribute to RAW and city-wide community-building efforts.
G2G is made up of a team of young men who work together to create positive change in their community through public art.
AMP (Art Motivates People) is designed for art-motivated students committed to building art skills and pushing themselves to try new art forms. Traditional and non-traditional materials are used in a supportive and fine arts based studio, from oil paints to found object sculptures. This is a great group for teens planning on art school and building a portfolio.
FILM SCHOOL GROUPS
This group provides an introduction to filmmaking for interested middle schoolers. RAW’s young artists learn the basics of filmmaking technology and different techniques available for storytelling.
This group’s focus is on personal storytelling. Students explore the tradition of personal narrative through memoir writing, essays, and creative writing workshops. They also learn the history of personal filmmaking.
This group is for high school seniors who are interested in developing a portfolio for the college application process. The group works together, engaging in every aspect of the filmmaking process, from writing, to acting, to editing.
Open to 9th graders, this group builds on the fundamentals learned in Take One, and focuses on storytelling, studio production, and an intro to cinematography.
In Focus, traditional documentary filmmaking is explored. Focus is about turning the lens outward, towards the community and the world, with a strong professional edge.
This group is the bridge between visual arts and filmmaking. Youth create films one frame at a time, exploring the endless possibilities of experimental and mixed media techniques, and breathing life into their art!
